This exhibition catalogue, The Cat Will Surely Knock Over My Vase Again Tomorrow, was inspired by Nagasawa Rosetsu’s Tiger Screen. Believing that the essence of a cat is revealed through distortion rather than direct depiction, we paired 30 cats with flowers in deliberately unbalanced compositions. Drawing from both Rosetsu’s playful “tiger-as-cat” twist and Kuniyoshi’s exaggerated supernatural felines, we embraced obscurity and strangeness to distance the work from literal realism—capturing the untamed, elusive spirit of the cat.
